Roofing
The importance of an intact and sturdy roof is often underestimated until there is a problem. Until roofing problems occur, the importance of the home’s covering is often taken for granted. If you are adding onto your existing home or building a home off plan, you will again come to realise just how important roofing is and how by giving your existing roof regular care, costly repair jobs can be avoided.
The level of roofing maintenance which is required is largely dependent on type of roof covering. Tiled roofs are almost virtually maintenance free and do not demand an excessive amount of regular maintenance. Checks can be done on a regular basis, however to ensure that there are no loose roof tiles and to protect the integrity of the roof, the gutters must be cleaned out regularly and repaired and replaced if needed. Should a roofing leak be noticed, the cause of the leak must be investigated immediately – it may be that a tile has worked its way loose.
Corrugated roof sheets demand slightly more frequent maintenance than a tiled roof. Regular painting is required and what’s more any loose roofing studs or nails need to be secured, as a loose nail will cause the roof sheeting to wear loose. Painting the corrugated roof sheets will prevent rust and corrosion and if this is not done on a regular basis, the rust damaged roof sheet will need to be replaced. If the integrity of roofing is compromised, it may lead to ceiling damage and this is a costly exercise to repair.
As with all items in a home, regular checks and ongoing maintenance will prevent the need to pay for expensive repairs. Roofing specialists are recommended to provide valuable assistance on the structure of the roof and if any immediate repairs are needed. Although most repairs can be easily carried out – roof waterproofing and sealing projects are best handled by roofing companies or roofers who have the required tools, materials and know-how to get the job done right.
