Roof Repairs

There are several reasons why a roof requires repairs.  Even the most careful of homeowners who keep their roofs in a good state of repair, are often shocked to find out that their roofs need to be fixed. A roof is exposed daily to the harsh outdoor elements from, wind storms, hail, sun, snow, etc.  All roofing materials weaken due to constant exposure to the elements; this coupled by air pollution and sea-air, the integrity and strength of the roofing sheets or the roof tiles is compromised.

Over time, roof sheeting or tiles will need to be repaired to avoid leaks. Although minor roof repairs can be handled by DIY homeowners, major roof repairs are in most cases, covered by the homeowner’s insurance policy and this means that all repairs must be done by roofing experts.

If a home is fairly new and roof problems are noticed, such a leaks, etc. this could indicate that an improper or ineffective roof design. If this is the case, repairs will be seen as large scale and a faulty roof design will need to be corrected before a new roof is fitted or before any repairs are carried out. Such a large project can end up costing a large sum or money to repair but if the problem is not tended to immediately, the poorly designed roof could cause long term problems that will end up costing far more.

A few examples of faulty roof design include weak roof structures which cannot cope under the load and this may cause splitting of the roof membrane. Incorrect roof slope or an insufficient amount of drains will cause water to pond.

If it is discovered that the design is adequate, a roofing specialist is able to ascertain the cause of the problem and carry out necessary roofing repairs. Since the project is usually seen to be a task for professionals, large scale DIY roofing projects are not recommended.
