Drainage
Drainage and drain repairs is something that most people don’t spend their time thinking about. It only becomes a topic for discussion when the drains become blocked. For the most part, we all go about with our daily lives forgetting just how many problems a clogged up drain can cause. When we pull out the plug after we have enjoyed a hot bath – we don’t think about where the soapy water is going to. We never spare a thought for sewer systems and interconnected pipes which run under our homes and which take away the used water from our dishwashers, washing machines, sinks, baths and basins.
Although we don’t spend much time thinking about drains and drainage, we do need to think about the cost of a blocked drain. Not only in monetary terms but in terms of inconvenience and hassle when our home’s drains don’t work as they should because they are blocked by hair, food and other objects. Drain blockages can be reduced by taking a few precautionary measures, like cleaning out the plug cover after showering, scrapping away all bits of leftover foods from the plates before packing the dishwasher and making sure that all filters on machines are cleaned before running a cycle.
Exposed outdoor drains ought to be checked for any obvious blockages, including, plastic carry bags, bottle tops, garden debris (leaves, twigs, etc) and paper. If this debris is not removed, the chances that the shopping bag or debris will block your home’s drainage system are pretty high. Since prevention is better than cure, before tossing items into a toilet, or down a drain, be mindful of the fact that many items can cause the drainage system in your home to clog up and become severely blocked. If a blockage results, it will become necessary to call in a drain specialist or a plumber who will be required to remove the debris responsible for the blockage.
