Boiler repairs

As with all other types of household equipment – regular maintenance of a boiler will increase the lifespan of the boiler and it will also decrease the need for costly boiler repairs. There are some repairs that cannot be avoided and with regular use and wear and tear, common problems do crop up and often these can be repaired without having to call in a plumber or the a boiler repair specialists.

The design of a boiler makes it difficult to simply assess the problem by sight and a thorough evaluation of the unit is needed. Usually such an assessment does not warrant the use of sophisticated tools and can generally be done by using regular tools which the homeowner has one hand. The first thing to be done is to check the boiler’s water pressure. If the pressure of the unit is low, the boiler will not function as intended. To rectify low pressure, most modern boilers can be ‘topped up’ by adding additional water through the filling loop to the boiler system.

Boiler leaks and blockages also cause pressure to drop. If a leak is detected or a blockage discovered, it is recommended that a professional plumber or boiler specialist be contacted. They will have the needed tools to find the leak and to safely remove any possible blockages. The correct pressure of a boiler should be between level 1 and 1.5 and a boiler which has diminished pressure will have a reading of below 0.5.

In the event that frequent checks are made and that the boiler is serviced at regular intervals, any foreseeable problems will be tended to and the correct repairs will be made. This will lessen the need for expensive repairs at a later stage. When appointing a specialist boiler repairer, a homeowner must verify that the individual or the company is Gas Safe Registered.
